At Dinnington Town Football Club's Annual General Meeting (AGM) last night, Andy Marshall stood down as Chairman after 6 years in which time he helped transform the club into one of the most sought-after places to play junior and senior football in South Yorkshire and beyond.
One of his greatest legacies is the delivery of a FIFA approved 3G playing surface which all Dinnington Town Football Club teams enjoy today.
Reflecting on his time as Chairman, Andy Marshall said: "It has been an absolute privilege to have been the Chairman of Dinnington Town Football Club for the last six years, however as many of you know I have decided not to stand for the role this year.
I am very proud to have been a part of the club that has grown from 9 teams when I took on the role to 25 teams as the club moves into the 24/25 season.
That is not to mention the development off the field. It has been an honour to be part of the team that successfully secured the funding for the ground development.
This has not only provided the club with top-quality facilities, it has also brought the club together. When I took over as Chairman one of the things the committee was determined to do was create a togetherness within the club.
The new facility and support from the managers and volunteers has enabled us to now have that togetherness and it is great to be part of the Dinnington Town Football Club family.
I may be stepping down as Chairman, but you won’t be getting rid of me altogether. I will still be managing next year's under 16’s and helping out around the club.
I have got so many people to thank for the support I have received over the last six years. I can’t name them all because there are far too many to do that.
However, I do want to mention a few. Matt Jenkinson who was the first team manager at the time I became Chairman, along with John Croot who was club treasurer, they persuaded me to take on the job and I would like to thank them for doing so because it has been a wonderful journey I have been on.
I also need to mention Darron Crookes. The relationship the Dinnington Town Football Club and Dinnington Resource Centre now have is something that I wouldn’t have ever thought possible and this certainly wouldn’t have happened without the help of Darron.
We have worked very closely together throughout the ground development and through the partnership between the Football Club and the Resource Centre. And although we’ve not always agreed on everything, I think he’s an alright bloke.
Gary Eades AKA Gary Goals, I’m only mentioning Gary because he’ll get the face on if I don’t. Gary took on the role of first team manager four years ago and Gary’s passion for Dinnington Town Football Club is second to none. He’s a Sheffield lad that we have adopted as our own and I want to thank him for the commitment he has shown towards the club since he has been involved.
Finally, I feel that I am leaving my post as Chairman with the club in very safe hands. I am confident that next year’s committee will take this club onwards and upwards.
Rob Cully, who will get my vote for Chairman, has been an absolute rock as my Vice Chairman. Rob has been a massive help since becoming Vice Chairman and I thank him for all his hard work.
One last person to mention, Katie Curtis. This woman is unbelievable, she became secretary when I became Chairman and the unseen hard work she puts into the club you would not believe. The club would not operate as proficiently as it does without her, thank you Katie.
Like I said I will still be around the place and I wish the new committee and everyone involved in the club good luck for the future."
