In a match filled with drama and momentum swings, Dinnington Town extended their winning streak to 10 league games with a 4-2 victory over Glapwell, maintaining their unbeaten record in the league.
The game got off to a frenetic start, with Glapwell taking the lead inside the opening five minutes. Catching the visitors off guard, a slick passing move resulted in a well-taken goal, immediately putting Dinnington Town on the back foot.
However, Dinnington Town regrouped quickly. Their response came in the 20th minute when Jay Atkin brought his side level.
Despite Dinnington Town finding their rhythm, Glapwell remained a threat throughout the first half, and both sides had chances to take the lead before the break.
Nevertheless, the whistle blew with the score locked at 1-1, setting up an intriguing second half.
The break seemed to revitalise Dinnington Town, and they came out firing after the restart. It didn’t take long for them to assert their dominance. Just six minutes into the second half, Corey Glaves put Dinnington Town ahead.
Dinnington Town’s relentless pressure continued, and in the 59th minute, they extended their lead. This time it was Will Eades who found the back of the net, seemingly putting the game beyond Glapwell.
However, Glapwell refused to roll over and mounted a determined fightback. They pulled a goal back in the 77th minute, making it 2-3, and threatened to create a nervy finish for the league leaders.
Yet, any hopes Glapwell had of a dramatic comeback were short-lived. Just two minutes later, Logan Liggins struck to seal the win for Dinnington. In the 79th minute, Liggins found himself in space finished past the Glapwell keeper to make it 2-4, ending any doubts about the outcome.
The final whistle confirmed Dinnington Town’s 10th consecutive league victory, a remarkable run that leaves them as the only unbeaten team in the division.
Reflecting on his team’s performance, Dinnington Town manager Gary Eades remained grounded despite the strong start to the season. "I wouldn’t say it’s going perfectly. It’s a great start, but we’ve been involved in some tight games. The hard work is still to be done," he commented after the game.
Dinnington Town are next in action on Tuesday 24th September, away to Emley AFC in the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA County Cup. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
