Dinnington Town made it six wins from six in the league, maintaining their position at the top of the table with a commanding 6-2 victory over Kiveton Miners Welfare at Phoenix Park.
The match burst into life within the opening minutes, as Dinnington Town were awarded a penalty just two minutes in.
Nat Jessop was wrestled to the ground inside the box, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot. However, in a surprising decision that mainly only the referee understood, the defender didn't receieve a red card for the pull back and even escaped without a yellow card, despite clearly denying a goal-scoring opportunity.
Undeterred, Brad Kerr stepped up and calmly converted the penalty, giving the home side an early lead.
Buoyed by their strong start, Dinnington Town continued to press, dominating possession and creating numerous chances.
Their relentless pressure paid off again in the 26th minute when Brad Kerr was brought down in the box by a sliding tackle. This time, the referee brandished a yellow card to the Kiveton defender.
Brad Kerr, full of confidence, slotted home his second penalty of the afternoon, doubling Dinnington Town’s advantage and putting them firmly in control.
Brad Kerr wasn’t done yet though. Just 11 minutes later, the new signing from Doncaster City completed his hat trick, finishing off a well-worked move to make it 3-0. This brought his tally to five goals in just two games for Dinnington Town.
The home side, now in complete command, added a fourth goal just two minutes later when Nat Jessop found the back of the net, effectively sealing the match before the half-time whistle.
Dinnington Town went into the break with a comfortable 4-0 lead, their dominance in the first half leaving Kiveton Miners Welfare with a mountain to climb.
The second half saw a brief resurgence from the visitors. In the 52nd minute, Kiveton Miners Welfare were awarded a penalty after what appeared to be a clean and brilliant last ditched tackle by Dinnington Town’s Jay Atkin was controversially penalised.
Yaya Dembele made no mistake from the spot, reducing the deficit to 4-1. Less than a minute later, Kiveton Miners Welfare capitalised on Dinnington Town's momentary lapse in concentration, with Fabian Johnson scoring to make it 4-2, briefly putting the home side under pressure as the home side looked bit shell shocked from that earlier penalty award.
However, Dinnington Town quickly regained their composure.
The introduction of substitute Jed Phillips in the 65th minute proved decisive, as he scored twice within 18 minutes of his arrival to restore Dinnington Town’s comfortable lead and secure the victory at 6-2.
With this win, Dinnington Town continue their perfect start to the season, sitting proudly at the top of the table with six consecutive victories.
Dinnington Town are next in action on Wednesday 28th August, away to Rossington Main Reserves in the Black Dragon Premier Division North. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
