On a bitterly cold and windy day, the floodlights illuminated the wintery skies as Dinnington Town squared off against Pinxton in the Buckingham Insurance Challenge League Cup.


The match delivered a thrilling spectacle that had the fans on the edge of their seats.


The match kicked off with Pinxton taking an early lead in just the 4th minute, courtesy of a strike from Jay Cooper. The biting cold seemed to have no effect on the Pinxton forward, who capitalised on a momentary lapse in Dinnington's defense.


Despite the challenging weather conditions, both teams eagerly contested the cup game, probing and testing each other throughout the first half.


Dinnington Town came agonisingly close to leveling the score midway through the first half when Justin Circuit's thunderous effort struck the crossbar, leaving the home crowd in disbelief.


However, the first half concluded with Pinxton leading 1-0, leaving Dinnington Town with work to do in the second half.


The break did wonders for Dinnington Town as they emerged with renewed determination. Justin Circuit wasted no time and leveled the match in the 46th minute, sending the home fans into jubilation.


As the second half progressed, Dinnington Town increased the tempo, and it was Jordan Turner who stole the spotlight. In the 59th minute, Turner put Dinnington Town in the lead. He wasn't done yet and grabbed his second goal just five minutes later in the 64th minute, seemingly putting Dinnington Town in a commanding position.


However, Pinxton had different plans and fought back fiercely with their own quick-fire two-goal salvo in the 75th and 78th minutes, leveling the match once again and setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.


With both teams hungry for victory, they went all out in search of the elusive winner, but neither could find it, and the game ended in a pulsating 3-3 draw, leaving fans on tenterhooks.


The match went to penalties.


Pinxton stepped up first and made no mistake and giving themselves a 0-1 lead.


The pressure was on, but Dinnington Town's talisman, Jordan Turner, stepped up and calmly converted his penalty, making it 1-1 in the shootout.


Dinnington Town gained the upper hand when Steven Booth made a crucial save by pushing Pinxton's next penalty onto the post.


Nat Jessop confidently converted Dinnington Town's next penalty, giving them a 2-1 lead in the shootout.


The pressure was mounting on Pinxton, and their shoot out woes continued as they skied their third penalty, leaving Justin Circuit with the chance to give Dinnington Town an almost unassailable lead.


Circuit displayed nerves of steel and made no mistake from the spot, extending Dinnington Town's lead to 3-1 in the penalty shootout.


With the odds stacked against them, Pinxton took their fourth penalty, but it was superbly saved by Booth in the Dinnington Town goal, securing a 3-1 penalty shootout victory for Dinnington Town and their progression to the next round of the cup.


It was a dramatic conclusion to an enthralling cup tie that will be etched in the memories of both sets of fans.


Dinnington Town are next in action Friday night, 26th January, away against Chesterfield Youth in the Black Dragon Premier Division North. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
