Full Time: Dinnington Town 2-1 SJR Worksop

Dinnington Town 2-1 SJR Worksop

Under gloomy and wet skies, Phoenix Park set the stage for a riveting local derby, brimming with the intensity unique to such confrontations.

The first 30 minutes were relentless as both teams went toe to toe for local bragging rights. Tackles were flying in, made even more frenetic by the wet surface, but despite the feistiness of the encounter, the match lacked that moment of clinical finishing to break the deadlock.

However, that moment came in the 34th minute as SJR Worksop's Jack Greaves, whose looping header from a free kick found its way into the net.

Balance was restored just 3 minutes before the half-time whistle. Jordan Turner, Dinnington Town's talisman, rose to the occasion in a crowded penalty area. Capitalising on a corner, he forced the ball home, bringing the score level at 1-1 as the teams headed into the break.

The second half started as fast-paced as the first, with both teams seeking the elusive winning goal.

Dinnington Town, in particular, edged closer to tipping the scales, notably when Justin Circuit, in a moment of brilliance, rattled the crossbar.

The defining moment, however, came in the 68th minute when Jordan Turner, once again demonstrating his clinical edge, found the back of the net with a deft finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the area - his and Dinnington Town's second goal, tipping the match in their favour.

As the match neared its climax, the intensity boiled over. Dinnington Town's Josh Baxter was sent off in stoppage time, following a contentious altercation with an SJR Worksop defender.

Baxter was given his marching orders for a push on the SJR Worksop defender after he appeared to be kicked off the ball by the defender. This sparked debates among the spectators, with many pondering why two red cards weren't shown.

The final whistle soon followed, meaning Dinnington Town recorded their 8th consecutive win in the league.

Dinnington Town are next in action on Saturday, 6th January, at home against AFC Phoenix in the Black Dragon Premier Division North. Kick-off is at 3:00 pm.
