A season-defining showdown under the lights at the Blackout13.com Arena saw a record breaking, for the new ground, 802 fans packed in to witness a battle that could ultimately decide who earns promotion.
But on a night of high drama, it was Doncaster City who landed the decisive blow, claiming a crucial 2-0 victory to seize control of the title race.
Dinnington Town, roared on by a passionate home crowd, knew the stakes could not be higher.
But from the first whistle, Doncaster City made their intentions clear.
Pressing high and forcing their hosts onto the back foot, the visitors struck an early psychological blow when former Dinnington Town forward Jordan Turner came back to haunt his old side.
With just nine minutes on the clock, Turner latched onto a loose ball, flicked it past the last defender and lifted a delicate finish over Steven Booth to silence the home faithful.
To their credit, Dinnington Town responded well, enjoying sustained spells of possession as they searched for an equaliser.
The closest they came was a moment of sheer audacity from Josh Baxter, whose thunderous strike from 40 yards crashed against the crossbar, inches away from a goal-of-the-season contender.
Despite their efforts, the half-time whistle blew with Doncaster City holding a slender 1-0 advantage.
Emerging from the break, Doncaster City wasted no time in delivering another hammer blow.
Just two minutes into the second half (47'), Turner was involved again, this time flicking on a long ball into the path of Mason Barlow, who showed ice-cool composure to slot home from the edge of the area. 2-0.
With the pressure mounting, Dinnington Town threw everything forward, determined to find a way back into the contest.
Wave after wave of attack followed, but time and again they were met by a resolute Doncaster City defence and a goalkeeper in inspired form.
As the final whistle sounded, Doncaster City’s celebrations told the story – a huge victory that puts them in the driving seat for promotion.
With just four games remaining, Dinnington Town still hold top spot by a single point, but crucially, Doncaster City now have a game in hand, swinging the momentum firmly in their favour.
Dinnington Town’s fate is no longer entirely in their own hands – but with everything still to play for, the battle for promotion is far from over.
